It is said that dramatic moments took place in the castle courtyard in the past, such as the so-called "Second Prague Defenestration" in 1618. This event, when two imperial governors and their scribe were thrown out of a window of the Buda Castle, is considered to be Cause of the Thirty Years' War.

The Castle courtyard is part of the Prague Castle complex and can be visited with the Prague Castle admission ticket. The nearest metro and tram stop is "Malostranská" (line A).
