"The Hunsrück Railway is a partially disused branch line that branches off the Linke Rheinstrecke in Boppard and formerly ran to Simmern. There it met the route between Langenlonsheim and Hermeskeil, which is now known as the Hunsrück Querbahn.

However, the 38-kilometer section between Emmelshausen and Simmern was shut down and dismantled. Today the Schinderhannes cycle path runs along this route. On the 15-kilometer Boppard - Emmelshausen section, the transport company Transdev operates regular local rail passenger transport (regional train line 37). Since there is a high demand from the area around Emmelshausen and Boppard-Buchholz, the trains in school traffic are tied through to the Boppard Süd stop."

At the time the lines were built, the name Hunsrückbahn originally referred to both the Langenlonsheim - Simmern - Morbach - Hermeskeil line, which connects to the Hochwaldbahn in Hermeskeil, and the Boppard - Emmelshausen - Simmern line. In later years, the term Hunsrückbahn was used primarily for the Langenlonsheim - Simmern - Morbach - Hermeskeil line, while the Boppard - Emmelshausen line was only referred to as the steep section. After passenger traffic was discontinued (Simmern - Hermeskeil: 1976, Langenlonsheim - Simmern: 1984), the name Hunsrückbahn was used for marketing reasons for the Boppard - Emmelshausen line, which continued to be used for passenger traffic, with the well-known Boppard - Buchholz steep section. To distinguish it, the Langenlonsheim - Simmern - Hermeskeil line is now sometimes referred to as the Hunsrückquerbahn.
