Cathedral Square Halberstadt

The cathedral square, which stretches between the cathedral and the Liebfrauenkirche, is one of those places in the city that were not affected by the war devastation in the Second World War. It was the religious center of Halberstadt, which is why there are hardly any shops here. Even a largely preserved own wall blocked off the entire, significantly elevated area and called Domburg from the rest of the city.

In the Gleimhaus, one of the oldest literature museums in Germany, the Age of Enlightenment comes alive again through the impressive collection of books, letters and portraits of its namesake, Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim. The municipal museum provides deep insights into the eventful history of the cathedral city and the Heineanum ornithological museum is certainly an experience for nature lovers. The screw museum presents the bourgeois living culture around 1900 and the Berend Lehmann Museum preserves the memory of the centuries-old tradition of the former Jewish community in Halberstadt.
Lovers of drama, ballet, opera and symphony concerts will get their money's worth in the North Harz City Theater.
