Diana in Roman mythology, like her Greek counterpart Artemis, is known as the goddess of the hunt and the patron saint of women. In Hamburg's city park, she is also the subject of two sculptures, both of which depict her as a hunter. Arthur Bock shows her striding with two hunting dogs, while Georg Wrba presents a rider with drawn bow on a striding hind. Unfortunately, the original details of the arrow and bowstring are missing today due to repeated destruction, but the effect of the composition is still impressive today.

If you approach the larger-than-life bronze sculpture from the south, you look directly and frontally into the face of the hunter, who is about to fire her shot. As you approach and walk around the figure, you can see the sophisticated and clear lines that present the animal, the rider and the bow as a unit. The wedge-shaped body of the hind with its head stretched far forward determines the optical focal point in the horizontal and is aligned in the middle in height. Instead of a clear vertical, which would be given by an upright seated rider, the artist shows the tense body of the naked huntress with a curved back, bent legs and horizontally aligned arms. As a result, the entire figure clearly strives forward optically and thus places the activity at the center of the depiction. The figure, created at the turn of the century, dispenses with decorative elements and speaks a very clear and modern language in which form and mass set the tone.
