In 1538 a stone church was built, replacing a wooden structure that had existed at least as early as 1132. The church suffered from religious disputes and in 1599 a fire broke out and destroyed the church. In 1606 the church was further damaged by a storm. The church was rebuilt in 1610. In 1836 the church was enlarged in neoclassical style. The tower of 1538 was retained.
