The town of Ortrand owes its connection to the railway network primarily to the initiatives of Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal. The Cottbus-Großenhain Railway Company was founded in Ortrand in 1865, and the groundbreaking ceremony for construction began on November 11, 1868. The most striking building is the station reception building, a two-story brick structure.
