Hiking
A second volcanic eruption led to the light tuff deposits.
During the third lava eruption, the "black lava band" and the "colored layers" above it were formed in intervals of eruptions and rest phases. The eruption of the Laacher See volcano 12,900 years ago added a layer of pumice on top.
Staircase-like rock slides are a special feature of the Eppelsberg volcano.
The stone industry company AG has been operating the quarry since 1980.
