In 1630 the Franciscans moved into the new monastery. The Franciscan Church (Paterskirche) was built in 1631, but was not inaugurated until 1640 because of the Thirty Years' War. Catherine of Alexandria became the patron saint of the church.
The renovation of the church and monastery was carried out by Elector and Archbishop Clemens August in the middle of the 18th century. The interior furnishings purchased at that time have been almost completely preserved.
