The "Old Tower" on the corner of Marktstraße and Turmstraße is today the symbol of the city of Nagold. It is a remnant of the old city church "To Our Lady", which was built around 1360 as a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary within the city walls and expanded in 1401 , provided with a tower and chancel and was probably elevated to the status of a parish church soon afterwards.

When the old church was demolished after the completion of the Johanneskirche in 1876/77, the church tower remained; characteristic is the double lantern in his helmet.

The ground plan of the old church can be seen from the paving of the pedestrian area at the foot of the "Old Tower".
