Zele Hoek is a neighborhood in the northeast of Zele where the Durme forms the border with Waasmunster, which lies on the other side of the river. Here the Durme once had an important economic function with 3 unloading quays (killen) for the supply of building materials and beer (liquid manure) from the cities. The ever-increasing silting up of the Durme as a result of the cutting off of the upper course by the construction of the Ghent-Terneuzen canal (1815-1830) has undone all this.
