By creating a new mouth of the Dender outside the city centre, the old Dender forms an idyllic water feature that connects the green edge of the city with the cultural-historical pearls in the heart of the city.
The banks of the Dender are accessible over the entire length. Hikers can therefore start at any point to take a trip along the old Dender. The part at the Tragel, with its rich fauna and flora, invites you to daydream. Between the Sas and the Groene Dender, the watercourse is flanked by unique statues, bridges and buildings.

Hiking

This is the natural course of the Dender, straight through Dendermonde. This changed in 1967 when the Dender was straightened, the Tijsluis was built and the Dender ended up in the Scheldt outside the city. The Oude Dender has remained the most idyllic of the two Denders. Fishermen have fixed cuttings here. Cyclists and walkers enjoy peace and quiet here.
