Using the ferry service is always a bit of travel, no matter how short the distance. Just experience.
Know that Appels Veer is one of the oldest springs in the area. The ferry was already mentioned in 1253 when it was handed over by the Count of Flanders, Guido van Dampierre, to Gregorius van Appels.
Het Veer is one of the few remaining Scheldt ferry crossings.
As a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, the ferry service is very important for tourism.
