"Fiete Föhr" greets all arriving guests of the North Sea island.

The sculpture, originally carved from elm wood, was made by the Flensburg wood sculptor Heinrich Oettinger in April 1999.
Just seven years later, the weather had taken its toll on the wooden figure. Water had drawn deep into the trunk from the base and had severely destroyed the sculpture from the inside.
A repair would have been too expensive, so Heinrich Oettinger made a new figure, which was put up in 2007, this time made of oak.

In November 1998, the port committee of the town of Wyk auf Föhr decided to have the figure of "Fiete Föhr" carved from the trunk of the dead elm in front of the port authority.

The sculpture was made by the Flensburg wood sculptor Heinrich Oettinger in April 1999. The figure of "Fiete Föhr" was invented by Lutz Ermert from Borgsum. In the summer of 2006 it was determined that water had penetrated the figure from the base and had considerably destroyed the sculpture from the inside.

In late autumn, the figure was carefully separated from the trunk and was to be repaired by the wood sculptor Oettinger. Since repairing the figure would have been too expensive, a new figure made of oak was commissioned.

The new wooden figure of "Fiete" was put up again in June 2007. "Fiete Föhr", the island's mascot, is a genuine Föhringer and a passionate seafarer. When he goes ashore, he also likes to cycle around the island and enjoy the beauty. You meet him again and again and everywhere on the island ...

The local landmark of the island: Fiete Föhr welcomes all arrivals here. The "replacement monument" made of oak wood created by Heinrich Oettinger in 2007 for his own work made of elm wood, which had to be replaced after only 7 years.
