"Budgies are one of the birds most often kept as pets today. They are very sociable animals and live in huge flocks in their homeland. So keeping them alone in a birdcage is not species-appropriate. The first budgies came to Europe in 1840 and were mostly green. Today are they are domesticated and come in many color variations. In the adult budgerigars, you can tell the sexes by the color of the beak skin: blue in the males, brownish-beige in the females."
