Petra is a famous archaeological site in the southwestern Jordanian desert. The capital of the former Nabataean kingdom dates back to around 300 BC. back. Access through a narrow gorge called Al Siq leads to tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, giving the city the nickname "The Red One". Its most famous building is the 45 m high Khazne al-Firaun, a Greek-style ornate-fronted temple called the Treasury
