The Obelisk Portal (that is its actual name) is a sandstone exit portal built in 1747 at the eastern end of the Potsdam Sanssouci park. Opposite it at the western end is the New Palace, built between 1763 and 1769. The approximately 2 km long main avenue, which runs in a west-east direction through the park, connects the portal in a visual axis with Frederick the Great's guest palace. Frederick the Great commissioned Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff to design the eastern exit.To the left and right of the column groups are convex walls on which the figures of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers, and Pomona, the goddess of fruit, stand. Vases follow further along the wall arch and at the ends are stairs with nymphs.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obeliskportal
