Pieta is the pictorial representation of Mary mourning her dead son in her arms. The impressive sculpture stands on a small green area at the intersection of several streets in Hüddessum. It is a copy, but it is also worth seeing. The original is in the St. Matthias Church.

In 2001, the Pieta was restored in a joint effort by the municipality of Harsum, the Episcopal Monument Preservation Office, the State Monument Preservation Office and the parish of St. Matthias Hüddessum. The Pieta was divided into an original (which stands in the Matthias Church) and a sculpture. On the Assumption of Mary, on August 15, 2001, it was officially inaugurated with a procession.

The following prayer to Mary can be seen in raised Gothic script: “Mother of Jesus, full of pain. Press your pain and that of your son deep in my heart!
