The former Neuruppin Town Hall is an architectural monument with character – a building whose facade reflects the city's eventful history.

Erected around 1790 after the devastating city fire of 1787, the building at Wichmannstraße 18 stands as a symbol of reconstruction and Prussian urban planning of that era. Originally owned by Major von Zieten, it was acquired by the city council in 1871 and converted into the town hall. The Neo-Renaissance extension, featuring a richly ornamented facade and striking roof structures, was added in 1885/86 – an expression of the spirit of the times and the city's self-confidence.

The facade, with its slate roof, ornamentation, and the Neuruppin coat of arms above the entrance, makes the building a striking landmark on the street.

Its use as the town hall ended in 2000 when the administration moved to Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. Since then, the building has been privately occupied – by various service providers, among others.

The comprehensive renovation of the building's exterior in the 1990s was supported by urban development funds and was part of the development of the "Bilderbogenpassage" – a project to revitalize the city center.

The building was built around 1790 as part of the reconstruction of the city after the fire of 1787. Until 1852 it was owned by Major von Zieten from Wildberg. In 1871 the magistrate acquired the building and converted it into the town hall. Until then, the town hall was located in the building constructed between 1800 and 1804 opposite the parish church of St. Mary on the church square (now the district court). The originally two-storey building at Wichmannstrasse 18 was extended in 1885/1886, the left building axis of the passage was built over and integrated into the building. In keeping with the spirit of the times, the extension was carried out in the neo-Renaissance style with a facade that was lavishly designed for Neuruppin standards, as well as a slate roof and various roof structures. The magistrate's hall and a more spacious staircase were also built. With its striking facade, the building is a focal point in the street.

In 1905, the town hall was expanded into the building at Wichmannstrasse 19. In order to be able to reach all of the town administration's offices in one place, the town administration was moved to its current location at Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 33/34 in 2000. The building at Wichmannstrasse 18 was privatized after almost 120 years of use as a public building and has since been used by various service providers in the center of the Fontane town of Neuruppin. Between 1993 and 1994, the town hall's building shell was renovated. The elaborately designed, street-side facade details were restored based on restoration findings. The renovation of the building shell was subsidized with urban development funds. At this time, the extensive renovation work began on the construction of the Bilderbogenpassage, which offers concentrated local shopping options as a center within the center. The simultaneous activities provided an impetus for the development of the inner city. The building, with its changes in use, is a living example of the city's development over the last 200 years. The Neuruppin city coat of arms above the main entrance still bears witness to its public use as a town hall.
