The former location of the Ruhr, which moved in the extreme north of today's lake along the so-called Ruhr parthangs, can still be beautifully determined by the location of the border between the city of Hagen, the city Herdecke or the Ennepe-Ruhr district and the city of Dortmund in maps. The border runs historically not through the middle of the lake, but approximately through the middle of the original river. One of the last few obvious indications of this is the mouse tower, which represents on the so-called Hengsteyseeinsel not far from Funkenburg the southern bridge tower of a pedestrian bridge, which once crossed the Ruhr. Only between this tower and today's shore used to run the narrow Ruhr.derwesten.de/staedte/nachrichten-aus-wetter-und-herdecke/mit-neuem-blick-auf-alten-wegen-id6979160.html
