The complex is located in the vicinity of the monastery of Our Lady. The sculpture park was created in 1989 at the same time that the National Collection of Small Sculptures of the GDR, managed by the museum, was renamed the National Collection of Plastics of the GDR. While one was initially limited to the immediate vicinity of the monastery, sculptures are now also found in the area north of the Hundertwasserhaus, on the banks of the Elbe, in the area of the Elbe train station up to the Magdeburg lift bridge and in the undeveloped area north of the monastery complex. The sculptures shown in the park have been continuously supplemented by further works since 1989, so that contemporary art is represented in all its diversity. A total of around 40 works by different artists will be shown.

The approximately 50 sculptures were created from the middle of the 20th century to the present day. In addition to the historical inventory of representative bronze sculptures from the GDR from before 1989, for example by Gustav Seitz, Fritz Cremer, Waldemar Grzimek, Jenny Mucchi-Wiegmann, Wieland Förster or Werner Stötzer and many more. m., the actual focus today is on newer works of international contemporary art, for example by Ian Hamilton Finlay, Alicia Paz, Nathan Coley, Gloria Friedmann, Auke de Vries, Schang Hutter, Heinz Breloh or Susan Turcot.

The sculpture park around the art museum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen was created from the late 1980s.

The site stretches from the lift bridge to the Petriforder between the Breiter Weg and the Elbe.
