The Fürth professional fire department building is located on Helmplatz. The hall gates can be seen from the Königsstraße as it passes by, behind which the vehicles of the first march are located. The building dates from 1914 and was intended to accommodate horse-drawn carts, which today means that the machinists only have a few centimeters of space between the vehicle and the hall arch when moving in and out. The building is under monument protection with number: D-5-63-000-650.[1] The inauguration of the new fire station at Kapellenstrasse 33 took place on October 22, 2023.[2]
The building also houses the rooms of the fire and disaster control office, the clothing room with tailoring, the radio and electrical workshop, the administrative offices and, in the basement, the hose workshop. The laundry, the car workshop and the locksmith's shop can be found in a side wing of the complex, which was subsequently added. After the city closed the calibration office adjacent to the guard yard, the professional fire department moved into it as an annex and converted it according to needs. The carpentry shop, the respiratory protection workshop as well as a small warehouse and parking spaces for four small vehicles are now available there. In the basement there is a respiratory protection training facility and fitness equipment for service and fire service sports. In the winter months, the Art Nouveau tower hall located above the “Weichamt” vehicle hall is used for sports units together with the neighboring Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium.
