On the edge of the road, the cross of Wihr reminds that on 19 August 1914, the place was the seat of a French ambush, which claimed nearly 300 victims. The cross of Wihr, between Labaroche and Horrode, a place to stay and pause, but also to remember. About a hundred years ago French soldiers attacked German soldiers. Result of the operation: 21 French dead and 250 killed Germans.

La Croix de Wihr is a memorial cross at an altitude of about 800 metres, located between Labaroche and Hohrod in the Vosges. It marks the site of a French ambush on 19 August 1914, during the early stages of the First World War, in which around 300 soldiers were killed – 21 on the French side and more than 250 on the German side.
