The Sint Jorisdoelen of Middelburg was built in the second half of the sixteenth century. The archers guild of Saint George was located in the building. The building was severely damaged during the Second World War, but was completely rebuilt in its original state after the war. After the militia left the building, the Sint Jorisdoelen had several functions, these were mainly catering establishments. When the building was destroyed in 1940, it was a hotel. Nowadays, the Sint Jorisdoelen is used by the Zeeland Provincial Council. The targets are located on the square, which owes its name to the weighing house that used to be here. On the square is a beautiful fountain and the monument in memory of the Zeeland slave trade.
