The Abbey has two churches: The Koorkerk and the Nieuwe Kerk. In between is actually the third church: the Wandelkerk or the Auditorium. The current church buildings were created around the year 1300 and were initially one abbey church together. The Nieuwe Kerk was rebuilt after a fire in 1568. Adjacent to the Nieuwe Kerk and the Koorkerk is the Lange Jan tower. For many, this tower is the symbol of Middelburg.

You can't miss it, right in the beautiful historic center of Middelburg. Here, the imposing Abbey Tower of Lange Jan rises proudly above the many monuments that Middelburg has to offer. You should also not miss the climb.

It is a bit of a climb, 207 steps to be exact, but the view is well worth the effort. The Lange Jan tower is 90.5 meters tall (one of the top 10 highest towers in the Netherlands). On clear days you can even see the surrounding Zeeland islands from the Lange Jan.
