The double iron swing bridge was built in 1876 by the iron foundry De Prins van Oranje in The Hague. When the bridge is opened, the two riveted steel parts turn into the locally lowered quay walls. There is a wooden traffic deck on top of the rotating parts, and the bridge deck has sober wrought iron railings. On the quay walls there are slender balusters with spheres on top and connected with horizontal bars. The bridge and its accessories were given the status of a national monument in 1993 due to their cultural, architectural, historical and industrial archaeological value.
