Amaro was a French penitent who made a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the 13th century and, upon his return, settled permanently in the city of Burgos and dedicated his life to caring for the sick poor and the pilgrims who came to the Royal Hospital.

The hermitage is dedicated to Saint San Amaro, who after pilgrimage to Santiago settled in Burgos where he opened a hospital to cure the pilgrims who went to Santiago.
It is recommended to make a stop along the way, as it is located on the Camino de Santiago.
