I find it exciting when someone steps out of line 😉. Why not a tree?

The weichsel tree belongs to the genus of prunuses. It is a tree species that is rare here. The tree originates from the Middle East and later spread to Central and Southern Europe. Here you only see it occasionally as a planted tree and it seems to occur sporadically in dune areas. In Den Bosch, however, there is a beautiful old specimen of this tree. It was pointed out to me by Sjef v. d. Westelaken, who professionally sails his boat along the rampart of the city more often. He is then looking for muskrats. The whimsical shape of the tree intrigued him and he wondered if I could tell you more about it. So I went to take a look. And it must be said it is a very beautifully shaped tree. The Weichsel tree seems to have been planted around 1900. A large iron plate has been placed around the foot of the tree to prevent the compaction of the soil. The nice thing is that the species name of this tree is cut out in this plate. The plate is made after a design by Martien van Osch. Also very nice is the raised edge of the quay wall that was built during a renovation in 2005. There used to be a hedge here. By placing the masonry on thin steel legs, this suggests the image of the vanished hedge. The Weichselboom hangs very crooked and almost touches the quay wall.
