Church with many architectural facets, which initially was a simple chapel of the Saint-Aignan church at the time of the Old Castle. It was with the destruction of the upper town, on the Montbellant plateau, that Saint-Pierre became a parish. With its tall silhouette dominating the Armançon valley, it is one of Tonnerre's emblematic monuments. Built around the 11th century, the Saint-Pierre church was almost completely burned down by the devastating fire of 1556. Restoration work was slow and lasted from the end of the 16th century to the middle of the 17th century. This explains its very particular face mixing Italian Renaissance and classical style. It was during this same renovation campaign that its windows were adorned with stained glass, known as "grisaille", of which there are rare examples in France.
