The wooden memorial cross above the forest chapel on Steinweg in the direction of Neukirchen and Todenfeld is known to the people of Rheinbach as the "Black Cross". It reminds of the Neukirchen pastor Johannes Paulus Rosenbaum, who had a fatal accident there with his moped.

The black cross commemorates the pastor of Neukirchen, Johannes Paul Rosenbaum, who died in 1803. According to tradition, the later Cistercian priest was born in Moselweiß near Koblenz in 1744 and has been a pastor in Neukirchen since 1786. The cross here is a replica. The many times restored wooden cross from 1875 is in the Rheinbach city archive. Source: General-Anzeiger, edition of June 14, 2019
