The core of the town is well preserved and characterized by narrow streets and small squares. The sixteenth-century parish church of San Giorgio shows on the walls of the choir three large frescoes by Domenico Pezzi, painted in the years 1581-1584, which have as their themes the Crucifixion, the Glory of Paradise and the Last Judgment.

In a fantastic location, above Lugano, on the ridge of the Ceresio peninsula between the mountains of San Salvatore (912 m) and Arbostora, lies the more than thousand-year-old picturesque town of Carona (602 m). Carona is known above all as an "artists' village" in which numerous sculptors, architects or stonemasons have immortalized themselves.
