This place not only offers an excellent view of Morter, Latsch, the Mittelvinschgau and the opposite Sonnenberg, but above all of the castle chapel of St. Stephen and the two castle ruins Obermontani and Untermontani. It should be noted that Beda Weber, a well-known Benedictine monk from Marienberg Abbey near Burgeis/Mals, discovered an original manuscript of the Nibelungenlied (Codex I) in the then valuable library on Obermontani in 1823. This is now kept in the State Library in Berlin. I had the honor of attending a secondary school in Meran named after Beda Weber.
