Burg Obermontani, built by Count Albert III of Tyrol around 1228, is an important historical site in the Vinschgau valley. It is known for its strategically favorable location and was long the most important castle in the Lower Vinschgau. The castle is the findspot of an original manuscript of the Nibelungenlied from 1323, which is now kept in the Berlin State Library. Burg Obermontani can only be viewed from the outside and is part of the Stelvio National Park.

Burg Obermontani was built in 1228 by Albert II of Tyrol as a fortress against the bishops of Chur and is the findspot of an original manuscript of the Nibelungenlied from the year 1323. Today, the unique item is kept as the Nibelungen-Handschrift Codex I in the Berlin State Library. Can only be viewed from the outside.
