Luther's words are at the historical place where Martin Luther was questioned before the emperor and the empire on April 17th and 18th, 1521. This is today in a romantic landscaped garden, the Heylshofpark. The former Bishop's Court that stood on this site was destroyed in 1689. There Luther refused to revoke his writings during the Diet of 1521. At the scene of the event, a plaque quotes from Luther's speech, a bronze relief by the artist Gustav Nonnenmacher from 1971 shows the view of the bishop's court before 1689, and a lightning bolt splitting the city relief refers to the separation of the churches. The walk-in bronze sculpture "Luther's Big Shoes" from 2017 gives space for your own thoughts and staging.
