Kyteler's Inn is said to be the oldest inn in town and one of the oldest inns in Ireland.
Its first owner holds a special place in Kilkenny history. The daughter of a Norman banker, Alice de Kyteler married four times and amassed a considerable fortune in the process. Local jealousies abounded and she was eventually accused of witchcraft and sentenced to be burned. However, her excellent connections with the local nobility ensured that she was 'summoned' out of the country to England before the execution could take place.
(there's a lot of history here... I've shortened it 😉)
In 1986 Kyteler's Inn was acquired by its current owner, Nicky Flynn, who set out to revitalize it as a place for good food, drink, entertainment and traditional Irish hospitality.

Kyteler's Inn is a historic and vibrant pub with a fascinating past. Dating back to the 13th century, it is most famously associated with Dame Alice Kyteler, an alleged witch whose dramatic life and trials still captivate visitors today. The building has been an inn since 1639 and retains much of its medieval charm, with groin-vaulted undercrofts and an atmospheric interior. Today, Kyteler's Inn offers traditional Irish food, music, and a lively pub atmosphere.
