Piazza Saffi represents the center of Forlì and is one of the largest squares in Italy. Here overlook the most significant buildings and religious sites of the city, such as the Palazzo Comunale, the Palazzo delle Poste and the Abbey of San Mercuriale. The square is the crossroads of the four main streets of Forlì, has a trapezoidal shape and at its center is a white marble monument dedicated to Aurelio Saffi, from Forlì, a prominent figure of the Italian Risorgimento.

The beating heart of the historic center since the earliest centuries: this is the meaning of the majestic Piazza Aurelio Saffi. Its arcaded sides create a sort of theater of city life, like wings that represent the flow of the centuries. Among the most prestigious monuments that characterize the square are the Town Hall and the Civic Tower, the Palazzo del Podestà (mid-fifteenth century), Palazzo Albertini (early sixteenth century); the Abbey of San Mercuriale (1176 - 81), dominated by the imposing bell tower (over 70 meters high) and the twentieth-century Palazzo delle Poste.
The center of the square is dominated by the statue of Aurelio Saffi.
