The grain distillery and liqueur factory Borgmann was founded in 1848 by Ludwig Forsthoff. The concession allowed 450 hl of alcohol to be produced annually. The distillery with its courtyard also acquired a historical significance when the town of Gruiten was supplied with water from the associated well since 1896. This local water supply was maintained for more than half a century and was only abandoned in 1948.
