From the outside a very pretty half-timbered building with a tower. Unfortunately, I can't say what it looks like from the inside, as I haven't been to the museum yet. From the outside it is definitely a nice photo opportunity.

The "Propstei" was built in 1578 by Albrecht von der Schulenburg as a manor house, incorporating some parts of the earlier provost from 1474. It is a half-timbered building from the Renaissance with a stair tower. A sandstone portal was added in 1754. The building remained extraterritorial until 1806, so it was not part of the town of Salzwedel. In 1928 it was bought by the city.

The regional museum named after Johann Friedrich Danneil shows interesting exhibits from the history of the western Altmark. The permanent and special exhibitions give e.g. Insights into the culture and way of life of the residents of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel in past centuries.
The largest exhibit itself is the museum building in the former priory, a picturesque and historically significant area at the Marienkirche. This impressive half-timbered building with a stair tower was built in the Renaissance as the town seat of the noble von der Schulenburg family, who lived in the Altmark.

It is located in a very beautiful inner courtyard, right next to the Marienkirche. Various benches invite you to linger.
