An imposing brick building, in the typical North German Renaissance style. The building served as the town hall until 1713. It also served as a joint town hall after the unification of Salzwedel's old and new towns. It has been used as a courthouse since 1855.If you look closely, you can see a Madonna and Saint Christopher, the patron saint of fords, in the eastern gable.

The district court is located in the building of the former town hall in the old town of Salzwedel. The house was built in 1509 on the foundations of a previous building, presumably the department store of the clothing tailors. The historic long-distance trade routes Magdeburg - Lübeck / Hamburg and Braunschweig - Hitzacker crossed on the square in front of the building.

The former town hall of Salzwedel, also known as the district court, is an impressive building in the late classicist style. It was built in the 19th century and now houses the Salzwedel district court. The impressive facade and the historic staircase inside the building are particularly worth seeing.
