The Marching Gate was the southern gate of the outer Aachen city wall. It is one of the mightiest surviving city gates in Western Europe. Its construction began around 1257 and was probably completed shortly after 1300.[1] With the Marching Middle Gate, also known as the Burtscheider Middle Gate, it had a counterpart in the inner ring of walls, the so-called Barbarossa Wall, which had a total of ten gates.

In 1964, the city of Aachen entrusted the building to the carnival society Stadtgarde “Oecher Penn von 1857 e. V.”, who restored it with a commitment of around 5000 working hours by members of the association and more than half a million euros in financial expenditure from donations and made it their “headquarters”. Today, the large weapons hall offers space for 200 guests and a historical setting for the club's activities. In addition, there are also archive rooms in the gate, the former commandant's room, a wine cellar, the bar and the clothing store.

The former border gate to Burtscheid was part of the city wall in the 13th century and was primarily used as the main weapon headquarters.
