The castle was built in the style of the Nuremberg pond house in 1578 under the merchant Valentin Schönborn. Through his daughter's marriage to Pius Petz, the property came to this family, which still owns it today. The early modern typology had basically already crystallized before the 2nd Margrave War in 1552 - such as the four corner roof structures under pyramid roofs (Hallerschloss brick stone). The outbuildings were timbered in half-timbering. Today's house portal dates from 1910.

One of the historic islands in Nuremberg. Very exciting:

In the 14th century, "Schwinke von Hasenburg" built a pond house here and received it as an imperial fief from 1358. It was intended to secure the trade route to the south. In 1377 it was acquired by the patrician Pfinzing family. In 1471 this building was destroyed by the city of Nuremberg. In 1428 the Waldstromer von Reichelsdorf received the building as an imperial fief.

A new pond house was built in 1519/20, which was burned down in 1552 during the Second Margrave War. The property was acquired by the merchant Valentin Schönborn in 1578 and rebuilt as a palace. Pius Petz acquired it in 1582 when his wife Marie Schönborn married, and it has been called the Petzenschloss ever since.

During the Thirty Years' War, Gustaf Adolf built a fortified camp on the site next to the castle in 1632; the castle served as his headquarters. In the same year the castle was damaged by imperial troops. In 1722 stables were expanded. In 1910/11 it was rebuilt according to plans by the architect Rudolph Behringer. In 1944, during the Second World War, the outbuildings were destroyed by air raids.

The three-story house with a square floor plan is surrounded by a walled garden with other commercial buildings. Like the brick Hallerschloss, which was also destroyed in the Second World War, the mansion is characterized by four corner roof structures under pyramid roofs. The outbuildings were half-timbered, the house portal dates from 1910.
