Köpernitz was first mentioned in a document in 1420. It is therefore conceivable that there was a predecessor building at an earlier time, but no documents are available so far. The sacred building was erected in 1883. In 2009, craftsmen installed a window in the choir with a Holy Spirit motif of the dove based on a design by Martina Wegener.

The village church Köpernitz is a neo-Romanesque hall church. It was only built in the late 19th century. The base of the church is made of field stones but on top it was built in granite and red bricks. It looks a bit cooler than the Feldstein and half-timbered churches on which I usually pass in Brandenburg.
