A detour to the residence village Hummelshain is worthwhile. The Old Hunting Lodge was built in 1668. The much more imposing of the two castles, however, is the fairytale-like Neue Jagd- und Residenzschloss, built in 1885. It is considered an outstanding example of historical architecture and was classified as a monument of national importance.
Unfortunately, it is endangered by years of invading moisture. It will be redeveloped from 2017 until 2023.
