The Johannes Schächter Trail (1.8 km long) is a wonderful hiking trail (marked "Hauenstein Walking Trail No. 4"), which also serves as a mountain bike trail down into the western industrial area of Hauenstein. A marker (dating from 2004) is located only at the upper end of this trail.

As I learned from the Hauenstein Palatinate Forest Association, Johannes Schächter was a forester (1874-1929); he died at the age of 55, or rather, in his 55th year.
