Lauf experienced its first heyday under the banner of the Bohemian lion. Based on the city survey, a diverse urban life developed: self-government and jurisdiction, crafts, markets and customs, church and school, social institutions. The urban character found its expression in the emblems of the seal, coat of arms and flag as well as in the various public buildings from the town hall, the shepherd's house, the shooting house to the "Fronveste", the city jail; not to forget the fortification with ditch, wall, towers and gates, which made running to a reasonably safe place.
