The people of Glückstadt were proud of this booty: shortly after they had captured the anchor of the admiralty ship of the Hamburg navy in a battle off the Elbe island of Krautsand in September 1630, they displayed it on the outside wall of their church tower. It still hangs there today. The Danish King Christian IV, who was also Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, had dreamed of Danish dominance on the Lower Elbe and thus provoked the conflict with Hamburg. Every ship passing by had to pay customs in Glückstadt. However, according to the agreements at the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648, these duties could no longer be levied.
