Today we wanted to visit Louisenlund Castle and Park (now a boarding school). On the way we met the giant of Ulsnis; The giant of Ulsnis has been the attraction in the small village not far from the Baltic Sea fjord Schlei since 2012. The Ulsnis giant was made by regional artist Andreas "Andi" Feldmann. The main material was sheet steel, which was processed together over many hours, weeks and months. The result is a steel giant almost 5 m high and a subtle weight of approx. 900 kg. The official unveiling took place on October 6, 2012.A notice board tells the following story about the giant of Ulsins: "In the prehistoric times of the village of Ulsnis there lived a giant called the old man. His son, almost stronger than him, moved in disagreement to other banks of the Schlei in the early Rieseby. Their quarrels were shouting insults accompanied by bullets from that time, namely giant stones. As was customary at the time, the old man built a colossal "church", which the son tried to surpass with an even larger church Their anger was so enormous that they not only destroyed the church towers with the stones but also inflicted fatal wounds. The old man fell with force to the ground and hit his head in the loop where the peninsula "Nes" is now. on Gunnebyer Noor. After the old one, according to "Ools-Nes", the place was called "Ulsnis". The place of the son on the other side was called "Rieseby". "We continued in the direction of Louisenlund. Shortly before the goal, a rain shower caught us and then we had to take a detour because of a construction site. We found a refuge where we took a break.Louisenlund Castle was built from 1772 to 1776 by Hermann von Motz on Gut Tegelhave (Ziegelhof), which had been in the possession of the von Sehestedt family since 1530. In 1563, Duke Adolf von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf bought the estate. The early classical building was once the summer residence of the Gottorf governor of the Kingdom of Denmark, Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel, and his wife Louise. As the daughter of the Danish King Friedrich V, she was the sister of the heir to the throne Christian VII, into whose possession the estate had passed. The brick building with a slate roof was named after her. The park was laid out by Johann Caspar Bechstedt. In 1790, the active Freemason Karl von Hessen-Kassel built a "Freemason Tower" in the park of the manor house, in which meetings were held and alchemical experiments were carried out, including by Saint Germain.Later the castle passed to the current owners, the family of the ducal line Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. After 1850 the building was rebuilt several times. During the Second World War, the Kriegsmarine confiscated Louisenlund. Towards the end of the war, refugees were also housed there. In May 1945 British troops occupied the site and used it until 1947; Norwegian units followed. In 1949, Friedrich Herzog zu Schleswig-Holstein made the mansion available to the Louisenlund Foundation as a state educational home and boarding school for sailing. Gut Carlsburg, which belongs to the municipality of Winnemark, accepted pupils from the 5th to 8th grade from 1951 to 1988.The palace and courtyard area is open to the public. There is a hiking and cycling path across the site. Guided tours of the historic site are possible by appointment. We just looked at the park.Today the Louisenlund Foundation is a state-recognized boarding and all-day high school and an IB World School in independent sponsorship. Since the summer of 2015, the Louisenlund Foundation has also had a private half-day elementary school, which is affiliated as a gGmbH. As a degree, students can choose between the German Abitur and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. On the way home the weather got better, but we had a "flat tire" on the bike.
But it was still a nice tour today.

Flensburg is a large independent medium-sized town in the north of Schleswig-Holstein. After Kiel and Lübeck, Flensburg is the third largest city in the state with over 90,000 inhabitants, the largest in the Schleswig region and the northernmost independent city in Germany.
Flensburg is probably the most hyggelig city in the north of Schleswig-Holstein, which inspires and enchants you with its Scandinavian flair.
The proximity to the Danish neighbors can be felt in every alley and every corner of the city and shapes the daily interaction in the region. You can see and experience how closely the city is not only historically connected to Denmark. You can still see traces of the past in the rum city of Germany if you follow the stations of the Rum and Sugar Mile or visit one of the two rum houses.
The HISTORICAL HARBOR is one of the most popular attractions when visiting Flensburg. Life reigns here: You can marvel at the imposing gaff sailors, classic yachts and the floating landmark - the SALONDAMPFER ALEXANDRA. Right next door, the MUSEUMSHAFEN invites you to discover with its unique backdrop in the midst of many old traditional sailors and the neighboring MUSEUMSWERFT.
A shopping spree is also a sightseeing tour! You immerse yourself in the pulsating life of the old town. Along the pedestrian zone you can admire the historical facades of various architectural styles and explore picturesque courtyards.

Today the weather wasn't suitable for cycling, so we decided to do a city tour. We liked Glücksburg very much and the castle is in a great location with a really great park. Have a nice round!Glücksburg Castle (Danish: Lyksborg Slot) is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe; it served the ducal lines of the Glücksburg family as the ancestral seat and was the temporary residence of the Danish royal family. The building, a moated castle, is located in Glücksburg on the Flensburg Fjord. The family members of the Glücksburg house named after the castle are related to almost all European dynasties.

Today we made another tour to Maasholm for a fish snack. The fish is just delicious. There were four of us and we had a lot of fun. Unfortunately we had rain again in the meantime, but were still able to comfortably drink an Aperol Spritz at the harbor in Kappeln. Then Armin Laschet came to the election rally. That was another great day.

After we took the ferry in Arnis, we went up to the Baltic Sea. Visited the marina in Olpenitz. Huge building area.
The Olpenitz naval base was a Bundeswehr base at the mouth of the Schlei in the Baltic Sea, which existed from 1964 to 2006. The Ostseeresort Olpenitz project, formerly known as Port Olpenitz, has been implemented on the site since 2009.
A unique holiday resort was built on the Schlei on the more than 150 hectare site of the former Olpenitz naval base.
There is still heavy construction there and we had to take a detour through the construction site.Continue along the coast to Damp.
Damp is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein. It is located on the Schwansen peninsula on the Baltic Sea.Now it went back down to the loop. A short break in the beautiful village of Sieseby right on the water. Sitting beautifully at the "pier". Just beautiful!Continue to the "Netzausleger" in Lindau. A place to enjoy nature, to slow down, to have fun, to take a break and just to forget the time - that is the net boom, which can be found 10 times along the loop. Solidly built from three larch wood planks, with a comfortable fishing net in between, it fits perfectly into its surroundings. After a fish sandwich break, we went home.It was a nice lap again that we did.

On the way there, we followed the cycle path Alte Kreisbahntrasse: Schleswig - Süderbrarup for approx. 20 km in the opposite direction from Steinfeld.
With the exception of a short break in Schleswig, the old circular railway line is gently undulating all the way to Süderbrarup. There is a rail link at both ends of the path. It is just a shame that the envisaged continuous fastening was not implemented. Despite improvements in sections, the quality of the path has since deteriorated considerably (partly gravel / slag layer, about half of the route is grass with a narrow lane retracted); only recommended in dry conditions. Great route through the middle of the country.Schleswig
is a medium-sized town in Schleswig-Holstein on the Schlei bay. It is the district town of the Schleswig-Flensburg district, the former capital of the Duchy of Schleswig and is also known as the judicial capital of the state because - for historical reasons - it is the seat of the state constitutional court, as well as three other higher courts and the public prosecutor's office. The way back, on beautiful bike paths alongside the road, was embellished by a ferry crossing.
Was a great day!
