The end of the upper Eichelberger Graben is formed here by a small water tank, from which the water flowed to the two wheels at the Knesebeck Shaft via a pipeline from 1855. It first drove an artificial wheel (with a blade ring) with a diameter of 11.37 m for water transport, then the sweeping wheel placed underneath: (with two blade rings rotating in opposite directions) with a diameter of 9.50 m for rock transport. The two very well-preserved "Radstüben" in which the water wheels turned can be visited at the Knesebeck shaft. The water used twice at the Knesebeck shaft flowed "back" to the inlet into the pipeline via the lower Eichelberg watercourse, which was dug up for this purpose. In this way, the energy supply of another shaft was subsequently made possible.(Harz Waterworks)

Old relics from the mining era always have a special charm for me.
