Best Hikes to Nostitz Castle Ruins

Tips

  • The manor house that existed in 1280 was in the hands of the Lords of Nostitz. In 1397 there was talk of a knight's seat, in 1419 of an outwork. This came in 1439 to the lords of Baudissin. The von Gersdorff family acquired Nostitz in 1541 and kept it until 1638. Under them, the Vorwerk was raised to a manor in 1563. Other owners were the lords of Ziegler and Klipphausen, who had the manor house expanded into a castle around 1680. They were followed by the Lords Schmeiß von Ehrenpreisberg, the Noble von Lossa and, from 1777, the Counts von Bressler. The castle was destroyed in 1813 during the Napoleonic Wars. At that time it was owned by Johanna Wilhelmine Gottliebe Countess von Bressler.Nostitz Castle was not rebuilt and stands as a ruin.
