The Fools' Fountain was created in 1986 by Renningen metalsmith Gerhard Längerer and expanded over time. Today, the fountain represents all the Weiler Fasnet groups: from witches, gypsies, sloe spirits, Spickling women, clowns, bears, and the Steckentäler (stick-taler), Schellenteufel (bell devils), and rogues to the guild masters and AHA ballet. The Fools' Fountain is thus a living testament to the Weiler Fasnet, not only preserving the traditions but also highlighting the creative and playful elements of the fools' art.

The Weiler Fasnet has been documented in city archives since 1625, when the magistrate punished some Weiler fools for "willful mummery." In the 18th century, "Mummerey" was even temporarily banned, before the first Fasnet play with a parade took place in 1863, followed by the first "AHA" fool's jump in 1930. The folk plays, a kind of precursor to today's Fasnet, took place on the market square from 1863 to 1925.
