Hiking

The poet Elisabeth Langgässer (born February 23, 1899 + July 25, 1950), who was born in Alzey, spent several years as a teacher in Griesheim near Darmstadt. On her many hikes and bike rides through the floodplain landscape of the Ried and along the Old Rhine, the nature poet got a lot of inspiration for her poetic work. Especially in her best-known book "Gang durch das Ried" (1936) there are many allusions and references to today's Riedstadt district - the Erfeld Altrhein, the Plattenhof in the Knoblochsaue or the Bensheimerhof near Leeheim.
